Water Well Aid

Clean water: Nourishing lives, sparking change

In India, there is a vast divide between rich and poor with nearly 30% of the population living in poverty. For every 1000 children, 87 die before their 5th birthday, mostly from preventable diseases like diarrhoea.

Every day, women and young girls carry several kilos of water from sources over 7km from their homes and villages. This leaves little time for attending school.

Because so many adults are sick from unclean water, children are often left to manage homes, provide food and look after the sick.

WATER WELLS – 948 Completed to date

Divine Onkar Mission is currently focusing on the State of Jharkhand and Orissa two of the poorest states in India.

It’s a known fact that most people living without water live actually live above it!!  but have no means to get access to the water.

Divine Onkar Mission has provided the means to access clean drinking water to villages across the states of Jharkhand and Orissa.

We work to a four-stage model to ensure ownership, safety and continued up keep of the newly constructed water well.

The village elders are consulted and involved throughout the process, promoting ownership and empowerment. Our consultative and collaborative approach is underpinned by our value of enabling and empowering communities.

A meeting is held with the Head of a village to discuss the best location for the well. This would have to be on neutral ground where all villagers would have easy and fair access.
Test are done to ensure there is a sound water source underground. Unemployed villagers are recruited, to work on the project.
The work is managed and overseen by a site Manager to ensure that all problems or obstacles are quickly overcome.

A opening of the well ceremony handing over of the well ceremony is organised ensuring ownership by all the villagers.
