Orphanage
Orphanage

It is a sad fact that Jharkhand is one of the poorest states in India. The impact of poverty means that children suffer disproportionately and are more importantly deprived of their fundamental rights. In order to mitigate against child poverty, we offer sanctuary to orphan children and children from poor families. We work under the umbrella of the child protection legislation for children in India. Child Protection is enshrined in four main pieces of legislation: The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act (2000, amended in 2015); The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act (2006); The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (2012), and The Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act (1986) Resulting in children in India being entitled to ten fundamental rights as identified below:
- the right to survival
- education
- protection
- participation
- development
- health and well-being
- identity
- expression
- non-discrimination
- a safe environment
Our Response:
We endeavour to give each one of the children in our care these rights and so much more. Children in our care live a life full of fun, laughter and a strong sense of connection with each other and the caregivers.
We offer every child in our care the opportunity to change their fate for the future. By providing, a nurturing home, access to education, food, clothing, and psychological and social needs these children thrive. We at Divine Onkar Mission Currently care for over 500 children in Ramgarh, Ranchi and at two separate schools and Orphanages in Orissa. We are proud to say that we have received positive feedback from the Jharkhand Juvenile Justice Department for our school and orphanage.
Sadly, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has hit hard on the poorest of families in areas surrounding our charity premises. Both in Ramgarh and in Orissa. More children lost their parents and homes during this time of devastation. We have responded to the increase in need by making more places available. This places additional pressure on our resources, both physically and financially.
We would welcome your support to ensure that no child goes without the chance to fulfil their dreams and ambitions. Please read the success stories of our young people, written in their own words, giving testimony to the opportunity they received from the Divine Onkar Mission, which has served as a launch pad to their career and financial self-sufficiency.
Please give generously, so that we can continue to do this important work.
